Refeshing Rousteing for Balmain

Under the new artistic direction of Olivier Rousteing, cruise marks Balmain’s first pre-collection. The Rock n' Roll spirit is still featured in this collection, much like former designer Christophe Decarnin did, but mixed with an Elvis (a la Vegas) twist; more prints, less sequins. It's great to see something new from Balmain. Kudos Rousteing!!

A New Balmain

As suggested last week, Olivier Rousteing, a key deputy of Christophe Decarnin at Balmain, was just confirmed as the house's new designer. He will supervise the design and development of both men's and women's ready-to-wear collections, and will reportedly not give any interviews prior to the debut of his Spring 2012 collection later this year.

According to the press release, Rousteing had been in charge of Balmain's womenswear studio since 2009 and previously spent five years at Roberto Cavalli, where he was promoted to designer of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections. He is French-born, was raised in Bordeaux, and completed his fashion studies at ESMOD in Paris in 2003.

Balmain

Balmain creative director Christophe Decarnin was missing in action for the label’s fall 2011 presentation today, but the show went on with Decarnin’s rock and roll aesthetic fully on display. Models strutted down the runway in sparkly sequined tops and pants, white leather and plunging necklines baring a lot of skin. With all the glitter and shine, it seemed that Balmain was looking towards the glam rock phase of music history for its inspiration complete with Ziggy Stardust-esque jumpsuits. (fashiongonerogue)

Anyone else notice the resurrection of Hye Park? So glad she is back!

Thanks to Bryan Boy, here is a video of the finale walk.

Balmania

Back in 2007, I went to see the double feature, Grindhouse and Deathproof, directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quintin Tarentino, respectively. In between the movies, there were mock (or so we thought) trailers to some really horrible but awesome movies. Little did we know that "Machete" would become its very own full length feature!

Here, Jessica Alba is stunning (especially next her co-star/actor Danny Trejo) in Balmain at the premiere of their new movie.
