Alexander Wang Spring 2012 Preview
“I felt it would be interesting to do something more dangerous,” Alexander Wang says. Specifically, he’s been thinking about (though not engaging in) drag racing and the ideas of speed and aerodynamics. As such, his spring silhouettes veer away from the slouchy track pants and oversize windbreakers of fall and resort and return to streamlined, close-to-the-body shapes in white, black and gray spiked with shades of green, blue, and a hue Wang calls “emergency orange.”
The 27-year-old designer is also exploring negative space. He’s working a lot with mesh and perforated leather shoes and dresses with tiny squares that echo the black-and-white boxes of the NASCAR checkered flag. Wang also promises a botanical print to “offset the graphic element,” but those pieces are still in the shop. - VOGUE
